The NIH H&WC facilitates and continually strengthens a culture of wellness in the NIH workplace so that each NIH employee has the opportunity to develop and pursue a healthy lifestyle and comprehensive wellness.

​Manual Chapter 1481:  NIH Workplace Wellness Policy

The NIH believes it is in the best interests of the agency mission to support workplace well-being, and, as such, establishes the Workplace Wellness Policy (WWP).  This policy written by the NIH HWC aims to take the agency’s own best advice by empowering employees to take action to improve their overall well-being.  Specifically, the policy seeks to assist those who are interested in maximizing their job productivity and health through participation in Workplace Wellness Activities.  To see the full policy go here.

 
 
NIH Total Worker Health Affiliate​​​

In 2017 the National Institutes of Health received recognition as an affiliate with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) Total Worker Health Program. To learn more about Total Worker Health go here

2018 Total Worker Health Symposium
 

In 2018 the NIH co-sponsored with NIOSH, the Second International Symposium to Advance Total Worker Health.  The week-long event entitled "Work & Well-being - How Safer, Healthier Work can Enhance Well-being," was held at the Natcher Conference Center. For information about the 2018 Symposium and view topics and presentations go here.

​NIH Well-Being Ambassadors

The NIH Well-being Ambassadors was founded in 2019.  The NIH Well-being ambassadors are made up of representatives from each of the 28 Institutes and Centers (ICs) at NIH.  The mission of the well-being ambassadors has been to work directly with key well-being stakeholder groups (i.e., NIH Child Care Board, Aging and Adult Dependent Care Committee, NIH Health and Wellness Council)  to support the promotion and engagement of the NIH Community and to advance the concept of Well-Being along with the associated IC based initiatives.
