Each year on the first Friday in February, the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI), The Heart Truth® and others around the country celebrate National Wear Red Day.® The goal of the day is to bring greater attention to heart disease as a leading cause of death for Americans and steps people can take to protect their heart. Promote Wear Red Day in your community with resources such as printable stickers, posters and social media graphics, including customizable ones.

February 3  #OurHearts pumping! Videocast now available

Join The Heart Truth, the NIH Fitness Center and NHLBI leaders Drs. Gary Gibbons, NHLBI director, David Goff, director of NHLBI's Division of Cardiovascular Sciences and NIH Fitness Instructor Linda Bessacque and others around the country for a sampling of fun aerobic exercises including kickboxing, dance and flowing stretches. All fitness levels are welcome to participate.

When it comes to physical activity, aim for at least 2 hours and 30 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity each week. This can reduce your risk for heart disease and your chances of developing other risk factors, such as high blood pressure, diabetes and being overweight.

February 17 Get Heart Smart

Be smart when it comes to your heart. Improving heart health literacy can help us make healthy lifestyle choices that keep #OurHearts healthy.

Join experts from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute's (NHLBI) The Heart Truth® program and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) Million Hearts® initiative for a dialogue about what Americans should know to keep their hearts healthy. They'll help you improve your own heart-health literacy by discussing what causes heart disease, what to know about your own individual risk factors, how you can prevent it, and what questions you should be asking your healthcare providers.

Following the discussion, you'll learn about resources available from The Heart Truth® that can help you be “heart smart" and take action to prevent heart disease.
