38th Annual NIH Institute Relay Has Record Turnout

This year, NIH held the 38th NIH Institute Challenge Relay on Thursday, September 14, hosted by the Recreation & Welfare Program staff. We received a record number of entries with 107 teams and 535 individuals participating.[P[1]  With even more staff attending to cheer the teams on, leadership kicked off the vent with Dr. Alfred Johnson, NIH Deputy Director of Management, and Colleen McGowan, Director of the Office of Research Services motivating the teams. A special thank you to the ORS Program and Employee Services branches, both DATS and EMB for supporting setup, break down and audio-visual. An R&W fitness instructor leads the warm-up. NIH had well over 600 people in attendance, the third-largest turnout for the relay on record. All Institutes, Centers, Divisions, and Contractors were invited to enter as many teams as they wished.

Each team was required to have a variety of gender representation and many teams came with team swag, while all runners/walks/rollers received an NIH Relay t-shirt for participating. The top finishers were:

  • 1st Place - K-Space Invaders, 2nd Place - Run DMC (Da MRSP Crew), 3rd Place - Kuka Family
  • 14:03 winning time - fastest since 2016!

NIH staff greatly appreciate wellness events, welcome the comradery and the events aid in team building across campus. We hope you will join future campus events as a volunteer, a participant, or to cheer on your colleagues.
